BIO

Gil Leyvas is a Broadcast News Reporter and Photographer with KNBC4 News in Los Angeles. Since 1999, Gil has worked in the Los Angeles News Market as a Helicopter Cameraman/Reporter covering the biggest news stories like the death of Michael Jackson, major brush fires and countless police pursuits. In 2005, Gil won his first of four Emmy Awards for his coverage of the JetBlue emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport, followed by an Emmy Award for his work on the UCLA Water Main Break story, an RTNA Golden Mic Award for his work on the Cajon Pass Fire of 2014, an Emmy Award for his reports on the 2015 Calabasas Fire and an Emmy Award for the 2015 team coverage of the San Bernardino Terrorist Attack.

Gil credits his success to his educational background in both Photography and Journalism through Santa Ana College and the Regional Occupational Program of the state of California. While studying Journalism at Santa Ana College, he enjoyed several years as a Staff Photographer, Photo Editor and Reporter for the school’s newspaper, the El Don. His experience with the paper led him to explore creative writing courses which enhanced his writing skills and his love for the written word. It was through an online writing course offered by Goldenwest College, under the tutorial of Author Eva Shaw, that Gil created the idea for his first novel, A Season with the Son.

Gil relies on his over two decades of broadcast visual storytelling experience covering human interest news stories, in-depth investigative reports and entertainment related segments, to bring to life his stories in print.

Gil currently is working on several writing projects including a sequel to his first novel, a cookbook based on his Mexican/Irish heritage, his memoir of his adventures as a TV News Helicopter Photojournalist as well as several other exciting novels hovering in the shadows.

But it's his lifelong belief in Jesus Christ that is evident in his work, weaving the importance of a spiritual relationship in the human experience, throughout his writings. He is enthusiastic and optimistic about seeing his first novel, A Season with the Son - a story about a group of Little League Baseball Players who experience Jesus Christ on and off the field - published and in circulation.
